Key words : media, variation of media. media can be the way of the teacher to communicate with their student. this study is a qualitative study which focuses on teaching english by using variation of media. the purpose of this study is to investigate the use of media in teaching english in the classroom, especially at smpn 19 banda aceh. in this study, questionnaire and interview were used to collect the needed data. finally, the result of this study showed that the teacher of smpn 19 banda aceh used the variation of media in teaching english for their students. from the result, it can be concluded that using variation of media in teaching english can be a good way for teachers to achieve the goals of teaching and it also can help them to make their students become creative, active, enjoys, and interesting in learning english.
