Keywords: team pair solo technique, reading comprehension. this research was aimed at knowing whether the use of team pair solo technique can improve reading comprehension of the second-grade students of junior high school or not. this study used quantitative approach through a pre-experimental research by using one group pre-test and post-test design. the population of this study was the second-grade students at mtsn meuraxa banda aceh, while the sample of this study was viii-2 class which consisted of 22 students selected by using purposive sampling technique. the material used in this study was descriptive text. the reading aspects which tested were main idea, detail information, vocabulary, and reference. the tests were consisted of 10 multiple choice questions related to descriptive text. in analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical formula. the mean score of pre-test was 45, and the post-test was 74.55. the finding showed that the improvement of the mean score was 29.55. the critical value of 0.05 significant level was 2.080, and the degree of freedom was 21. the t-test was 4.415 which was higher than the t-table (2.080). as the result, team pair solo technique can improve students’ reading comprehension at the viii-2 of mtsn meuraxa banda aceh.
