Abstract name : chyntia student no. : 1206102020023 study program : english education title : analysis of code switching in ika natassa’s novel “antologi rasa” keywords: code switching, novel, antologi rasa this study mainly discussed about the types of code switching and the reasons of using code switching occurred in ika natassa’s novel “antologi rasa”. this study used qualitative method. to gain the data, the researcher did some steps which were reading, identifying, and examining the document (novel) that contain codes switching. then, she categorized the data into the table and classified the data into 4 types of code switching based on hoffmann framework (2014) and 10 reasons of code-switching based on hoffmann (2014) and saville-troike (2008) framework. the result of this research showed that all of the types suggested by hoffmann (2014) were found in ika natassa’s novel “antologi rasa”. inter-sentential switching took place as the most frequently type occurred since it may signal the the bilingual proficiency in both of language. while, establishing continuity with the previous speaker as the least type found because of the social distance and between the character. also, all of the reasons proposed by hoffmann (2014) and saville-troike (2008) were found in ika natassa’s novel “antologi rasa”. talking about particular topic become the dominant reason because most utterances are more appropriately or more easily expressed in english than indonesian. in contrast, repetition and excluding people from the conversation become the least one. the researcher hope for other researchers that interested in this topic might explore and developed about intra-sentential switching type in the novel. ?
