Keywords: teaching speaking, role playing technique the objective of this study is to find out how role playing technique helps students express their ability in speaking. the discussion of the technique is focused on the use of role playing technique to solve the speaking problems that are faced by students in which they have to know how to make a dialogue based on the habitual experiences. this study found that using role playing technique can help the students to enjoy the learning process; they can express their ability in speaking, and help them increase their speaking skill. the technique used in this study is library research. the data is extracted from various resources and it is processed and described in a descriptive way. finally, this study is expected to be useful for other english teachers in order to apply the role playing technique in esl class.
