Abstract name : anggi indah permata student no. : 1006102020005 study program : english education title : the use of question answer relationship (qar) strategy in developing students’ reading skill (an experimental study at smp it nurul fikri aceh besar) keyword: question answer relationship (qar) strategy, reading comprehension this research was conducted to figure out the problem and the causes of those problems dealt by the first grade students at smp it nurul fikri aceh besar in comprehending reading text in aspects of main idea, vocabulary and reference. the aim of this research was to know the improvement of students’ reading comprehension through the application of question answer relationship strategy that was adapted from vacca and vacca (1987) and raphael (2005). this one group pretest and posttest experimental research focused on descriptive text. the data were collected by comparing pretest and posttest score of the students. the samples of this research were vii1 grade students that were chosen through random sampling technique. the instruments that were used open-ended test. the data were analyzed by using t-test formula. the result of this research showed that question answer relationship strategy improves students’reading comprehension skill which the posttest scores were higher than the pretest scores with tscore is 3.8. this research can hopefully be solution for those who have the same problems in reading comprehension particularly in developing vocabulary, finding main idea and getting reference of the text. to conclude, the question answer relationship strategy improves students’ reading comprehension competency.
