Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan dan ketimpangan ekonomi di pulau sumatera. pendekatan model yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kuantitatif. penelitian ini menjadikan pulau sumatera sebagai objek pembahasan. data yang digunakan adalah data skunder pertumbuhan ekonomi selama periode 2002-2013. hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa dari ketiga pendekatan perhitungan yang dilakukan didapati bahwa ketimpangan yang terjadi di pulau sumatera melalui pendekatan koefisien variasi kesenjangannya mengecil hal ini karena nilai yang didapat mendekati 0, untuk pendekatan williamson diketahui dari tahun 2002 sampai 2008 walaupun masih di bawah 0,5 akan tetapi sudah mendekati, secara keseluruhan nilainya mendekati 1, sedangkan dilihat dari perhitungan entropi theil diketahui nilainya melebihi 0. maka dapat disimpulkan pulau sumatera dilihat pertahunnya secara keseluruhan memiliki disparitas yang tinggi dengan kata lain pertumbuhan ekonominya belum merata. kata kunci :pdrb, koefisien variasi, williamson, dan entropi theil this study aims to determine the economic growth and economic disparitiy on the island of sumatra. the model approach which is used in this research is descriptive quantitative. this study is adrressed to make the island of sumatra as the object of discussion. the data which is used in this study is secondary data of economic growth during the period of 2002-2013. the survey results revealed that the three approaches calculation in sumatera islands found that, first, the disparity that happened on the sumatera islands by the coefficient of variation approach show that the disparity level become small, because the value which is obtained is close to 0. second, in williamson approach known from 2002 to 2008 the value is below 0.5, but as the overall result the value is close to 1. third, from the calculation of entropy theil known value exceeds 0. so, as a conclusion, the yearly disparity of sumatera island has a high disparity, in other words, economic growth in the sumatera island has not been evenly distributed key words : gdp, coefficient varian, williamson, and entropi theil.
