(a case study on second grade students at sman 7 banda aceh) keywords: comparative study, male, female, reading text. this study was aimed at figuring out the achievement differences in comprehending narrative text between male and female students in sman 7 banda aceh. the population of this study was the second year students of sman 7 banda aceh, and the samples were 20 students of one class which were taken by using random sampling. the method used in this study was descriptive quantitative. the instrument used was a set of written test which consists of 20 narrative text questions in multiple choices. the finding in this study revealed that reading achievement between male and female students was slightly different. it was showed that by the students mean score, female = 7,6 and male = 7,3. the t-test was lower than t-table, -0.026 < 1.70 which indicated that the h0 was accepted. it, thus, can be concluded that the female students are not better than male students in comprehending narrative text.
