Abstrak manajemen sterilisasi instrumen bedah meliputi tahapan persiapan, metode sterilisasi, dan penyimpanan pasca sterilisasi di alfa animal clinic rizki mulia1, t. armansyah tr2 1mahasiswa program studi diploma-iii kesehatan hewan, fakultas kedokteran hewan, universitas syiah kuala 2dosen pembimbing, fakultas kedokteran hewan, universitas syiah kuala kegiatan praktek kerja lapangan (pkl) ini dilaksanakan di alfa animal clinic, kota banda aceh, selama satu bulan mulai 1 april hingga 1 mei 2026. sterilisasi instrumen bedah merupakan bagian penting dalam menjaga mutu pelayanan medis veteriner karena instrumen yang bersentuhan langsung dengan jaringan tubuh hewan harus bebas dari mikroorganisme patogen agar tidak menjadi sumber infeksi silang. kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses persiapan instrumen bedah sebelum sterilisasi, metode sterilisasi yang digunakan beserta penerapannya, proses penyimpanan instrumen pasca sterilisasi, serta peran paramedik veteriner dalam pelaksanaan sterilisasi instrumen bedah di alfa animal clinic. data diperoleh melalui observasi langsung terhadap seluruh tahapan manajemen sterilisasi, kemudian dicatat dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa manajemen sterilisasi instrumen bedah di alfa animal clinic dilakukan melalui tahapan perendaman menggunakan larutan klorin, pencucian dengan air mengalir dan sikat, pengeringan menggunakan kain atau tisu, pengelompokan instrumen berdasarkan jenis dan fungsi ke dalam minor set dan dental set, serta sterilisasi menggunakan alat sterilisator sinar ultraviolet (uv) dengan waktu paparan selama 15 menit. setelah proses sterilisasi selesai, instrumen tidak dikemas atau dibungkus, melainkan disimpan langsung di dalam alat sterilisator uv dalam kondisi tertutup hingga digunakan kembali. praktik ini berbeda dengan teori penyimpanan steril yang merekomendasikan penggunaan kemasan atau pembungkus steril untuk mempertahankan sterilitas instrumen dalam jangka waktu yang lebih lama. paramedik veteriner berperan penting dalam memastikan setiap tahapan sterilisasi, mulai dari persiapan alat, pengoperasian sterilisator uv, hingga penyimpanan instrumen, dilaksanakan sesuai standar operasional prosedur. dapat disimpulkan bahwa manajemen sterilisasi instrumen bedah di alfa animal clinic secara umum telah berjalan dengan baik, namun aspek pengemasan pasca sterilisasi masih perlu ditingkatkan agar sterilitas instrumen lebih terjamin dan risiko kontaminasi ulang dapat diminimalkan. kata kunci: sterilisasi instrumen bedah, sinar ultraviolet, manajemen sterilisasi, klinik hewan, paramedik veteriner



Abstract

ABSTRACT MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL INSTRUMENT STERILIZATION AT ALFA ANIMAL CLINIC: PREPARATION STAGE, STERILIZATION METHODS, AND POST-STERILIZATION STORAGE Rizki Mulia1, T. Armansyah TR2 1Student of Diploma-III Animal Health Study Program, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala 2Supervisor, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala This Field Work Practice (Praktek Kerja Lapangan/PKL) activity was carried out at Alfa Animal Clinic, Banda Aceh, over one month from 1 April to 1 May 2026. Sterilization of surgical instruments is an essential part of maintaining the quality of veterinary medical services, since instruments that come into direct contact with animal tissue must be free of pathogenic microorganisms to prevent cross-infection. This activity aimed to determine the preparation process of surgical instruments prior to sterilization, the sterilization method applied, the post-sterilization storage process, and the role of veterinary paramedics in carrying out surgical instrument sterilization at Alfa Animal Clinic. Data were obtained through direct observation of the entire instrument sterilization management process, then recorded and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that surgical instrument sterilization management at Alfa Animal Clinic was carried out through soaking using a chlorine solution, washing with running water and a brush, drying with cloth or tissue, grouping instruments by type and function into minor sets and dental sets, and sterilization using an ultraviolet (UV) sterilizer with a 15-minute exposure time. After sterilization, the instruments were not wrapped or packaged, but were stored directly inside the closed UV sterilizer until reuse. This practice differs from sterile storage theory, which recommends the use of sterile packaging or wrapping to maintain instrument sterility over a longer period. Veterinary paramedics played an important role in ensuring that every stage of sterilization, from instrument preparation and UV sterilizer operation to instrument storage, was carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures. It can be concluded that surgical instrument sterilization management at Alfa Animal Clinic has generally run well, although the post-sterilization packaging aspect still needs improvement to better ensure instrument sterility and minimize the risk of recontamination.
