Azwardi, KONTRIBUSI INFRASTRUKTUR EKONOMI TERHADAP PENGUATAN SEKTOR PARIWISATA DAN PEREKONOMIAN INDONESIA. Banda Aceh Program Study Doktor Ilmu Ekonomi Universitas Syiah Kuala,2026

Abstract

This study analyzes the effects of economic infrastructure and price stability on domestic tourism and regional economic growth across 34 provinces in Indonesia during the 2018–2024 period. Economic infrastructure is proxied by access to PLN electricity, mobile phone ownership, and the length of roads in good and moderate condition. Domestic tourism is measured by domestic tourist trips and domestic tourist expenditure. The study applies the Panel ARDL method with the Pooled Mean Group approach, complemented by the Sobel Test to examine mediation effects and interaction variables to test the moderating roles of crime and corruption. The results show that economic infrastructure positively affects domestic tourism and economic growth, especially in the long run. Price instability and COVID-19 tend to reduce tourism performance and regional economic growth. Domestic tourism serves as an important transmission channel, particularly through tourist expenditure. Crime and corruption weaken the effect of infrastructure on tourism, indicating that physical development does not automatically generate optimal benefits without public safety and good governance. These findings highlight the importance of a domestic tourism development strategy that is not only infrastructure-oriented, but also supported by price stability, destination safety, corruption control, and increased tourist spending. Keywords: economic infrastructure, domestic tourism, regional growth, crime, corruption.
