Taufik Hidayat Piliang, ANALISIS PENGARUH VARIASI AIRFOIL DAN SOLIDITY TERHADAP PERFORMA TURBIN ANGIN DARRIEUS H-ROTOR. Banda Aceh Fakultas Teknik,2026

Abstract

Wind energy utilization in Indonesia requires further development, particularly in regions characterized by low to moderate wind speeds. The Darrieus H-Rotor vertical-axis wind turbine presents a promising alternative due to its ability to capture wind from various directions and its relatively simple construction. However, the performance of Darrieus turbines is significantly influenced by design parameters, specifically the airfoil profile and solidity value. This study aims to analyze the effects of varying airfoil profiles and solidity values on the performance of a Darrieus H-Rotor wind turbine using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The turbine model is based on the reference geometry of Castelli et al., utilizing unsteady simulations. The research stages include geometric modeling, definition of the computational domain and boundary conditions, mesh generation, mesh and domain independence tests, turbulence model selection, and validation of the numerical model against experimental data. Once the numerical model is validated, a parametric study involving variations in airfoil and solidity is conducted to identify the configuration yielding the best performance. The performance parameters analyzed are the power coefficient (Cp) and torque. The optimal configuration is subsequently evaluated at wind speeds of 4 m/s, 5 m/s, and 6 m/s, representing wind conditions in the Pulo Aceh region. The findings of this study are expected to provide insight into the influence of airfoil and solidity on Darrieus H-Rotor turbine performance and serve as a reference for the design development of vertical-axis wind turbines for regions with low to moderate wind speeds.
