RANGYA ALIF FATAHILLAH, UJI SIFAT TERMAL BAHAN SELUBUNG BANGUNAN. Banda Aceh Fakultas Teknik,2026

Abstract

The increase in global temperatures due to global warming has led to a significant rise in energy consumption for thermal comfort systems such as air conditioning. Building envelope materials made from white cement reinforced with natural fibers have emerged as an alternative solution to reduce average energy consumption. This study aims to analyze the effect of incorporating natural fibers, namely ramie fiber (Boehmeria nivea), coconut coir (Cocos nucifera), and ijuk fiber (Arenga pinnata), into white cement composites on their thermal properties for building envelope applications. Fiber contents of 40% and 50% were investigated. The tests included thermal conductivity, density, specific heat capacity, and thermal diffusivity. The results showed that increasing the fiber content reduced the thermal conductivity, density, and thermal diffusivity of the composites while increasing their specific heat capacity. Among the natural fibers evaluated, ijuk fiber exhibited the most favorable thermal properties for environmentally friendly thermal insulation applications, with a thermal conductivity of 2.51 W/m·K, a density of 2100 kg/m³, a thermal diffusivity of 7.41863 × 10⁻⁷ m²/s, and a specific heat capacity of 1611.13 J/kg·K.
