Ratu albaina.

Abstract

Ratu Albaina. 2205109010045. Diversity of Coffee Flower-Visiting Insects and Their Ecological Functions in Arabica Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) Plantations in Different Agroecosystems. Under the guidance of Jauharlina as chair and Hartati Oktarina as member. ABSTRACT Coffee is an important commodity in Central Aceh Regency. The presence of coffee flower-visiting insects plays a crucial role in maintaining agroecosystem balance through their functions as pollinators and other ecological functions. Differences in agroecosystem conditions, such as plantations adjacent to lakes and forest areas, are thought to influence the composition and diversity of flower-visiting insects. This study aimed to determine the species composition, ecological function, species richness, individual abundance, and diversity of Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) flower-visiting insects in these two agroecosystems. The study was conducted in Genuren and Dedamar Villages, Bintang District, Central Aceh Regency. Observations were conducted in two types of agroecosystems: a coffee plantation near Lake Laut Tawar and a coffee plantation near a forest area. Each location consisted of five subplots with a total of 100 sample plants, resulting in a total of 200 sample plants. Insects were collected using insect nets and hand brushes, then identified morphologically to the morphospecies level. Observed parameters included the percentage of plants visited, species composition and ecological function, species richness, individual abundance, diversity index (H′), evenness (E), dominance (D), and similarity (IS). Data were analyzed using a T-test. The results showed that the coffee flower-visiting insects comprised 6 orders, 24 families, and 36 species, with a total of 533 individuals: 243 individuals in the plantation near the lake and 290 individuals in the plantation near the forest. All of these insects function as pollinators, predators, parasitoids, and herbivores. The plantation adjacent to the forest had 30 species, more than the plantation adjacent to the lake (29 species), and exhibited a higher abundance of individuals. The species with the highest abundance of individuals in both agroecosystems was Apis cerana, with 53 individuals in the garden near the lake and 55 individuals in the garden near the forest, respectively. The diversity index (H′) ranged from 1.66 to 2.25 (moderate to high), the evenness index (E) ranged from 0.89 to 0.97 (high), and the dominance index (D) ranged from 0.117 to 0.244 (low). A similarity index of 0.78 indicates that both agroecosystems have a high level of similarity in species composition, although some species are found only in one location. The study concluded that both agroecosystems have relatively similar diversity of coffee flower-visiting insects, characterized by a composition of 6 orders, 24 families, and 36 species. A similarity index of 0.78 indicates a very high level of similarity in species composition. However, the garden adjacent to the forest had a higher number of species and higher abundance of individuals than the garden adjacent to the lake.
