NAJLA MAZAYA ZUARDY, EVALUASI PURNA HUNI RUMAH BANTUAN PASCA 20 TAHUN TSUNAMI, STUDI KASUS: DESA ALUE DEAH TEUNGOH, BANDA ACEH. Banda Aceh Fakultas Teknik Arsitektur,2026

Abstract

The post-tsunami housing reconstruction program following the 2004 Aceh tsunami was intended to provide permanent housing for disaster-affected communities. However, after more than two decades of occupancy, it is important to evaluate the extent to which these houses continue to meet residents’ needs. This study aims to examine the current condition and functional performance of post-tsunami reconstructed houses and to identify residents’ adaptation patterns through modifications to functional performance elements and the factors influencing them. The research was conducted in Alue Deah Teungoh Village, Banda Aceh, using a qualitative approach and the Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) method. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation of eight sample houses representing the four donor housing types found in the village. The analysis focused on spatial layout and organization, circulation and accessibility, form and size, and furniture arrangement. The findings indicate that the dominant modification patterns include the addition of new room functions, the creation of alternative entrances, spatial expansion, and the reduction of furniture quantity. The most influential factor driving these modifications is the mismatch between available space and occupants’ needs, followed by family growth, occupational requirements, spatial development, security needs, and privacy demands. These findings suggest that housing modifications represent residents’ efforts to adapt their homes to the mismatch between the original post-disaster housing design and their evolving needs over time. Keywords: post-disaster housing, Aceh tsunami, Post-Occupancy Evaluation, functional performance, housing modification.
