Abstract

ABSTRACT Title : Analysis of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Competitiveness: A Case Study of BRICS Countries in the Era of Globalization Author : Mafirah Nim : 2201101010023 Faculty/Department : Economics and Business/Development Economics Supervisors : Prof. Dr. Sofyan Syahnur, S.E., M.Si Sri Sukma Wahyuni, S.E., M.Si Concentration : International Economics This study aims to analyze the impact of economic growth, inflation, and trade openness on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in BRICS countries during the era of globalization, as well as to analyze FDI competitiveness. The study utilizes annual panel data covering the 2000–2024 period, obtained from the World Bank’s World Development Indicators (WDI). The analysis employs the Panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (Panel ARDL) method with a Pooled Mean Group (PMG) approach. The findings indicate that, in the long run economic growth and trade openness have a positive and significant impact on FDI, whereas inflation has a negative and significant impact on FDI in BRICS countries. In the short run, the impact of these three variables on FDI varies across the individual countries. Furthermore, the analysis reveals that Indonesia's FDI competitiveness is relatively stable but remains below that of several BRICS nations; consequently, improvements in infrastructure, regulations, and the investment climate are required to enhance its attractiveness to foreign investment. Based on these results, the government needs to maintain macroeconomic stability, increase trade openness, and improve the quality of the investment climate to boost Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows. Keywords : Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), economic growth, inflation, trade openness
