T FERRY FERDIANSYAH, SISTEM PREDIKSI HEMOGLOBIN BERBASIS SINYALRNPHOTOPLETHYSMOGRAPHY MENGGUNAKANRNALGORITMA XGBOOST. Banda Aceh Fakultas Teknik Elektro,2026

Abstract

Hemoglobin is a vital parameter in assessing blood health, where an imbalance can indicate various clinical disorders such as anemia. Currently, the standard measurement of hemoglobin is still performed invasively through blood sampling. This method is considered inefficient as it often causes discomfort, carries a risk of infection, and requires professional medical personnel. To address these issues, this study has developed a non-invasive hemoglobin level prediction system based on the analysis of optical Photoplethysmography (PPG) signals using the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) algorithm. The model training phase utilized a secondary PPG dataset (Figshare) that had undergone filtering, segmentation, and principal feature extraction from the PPG waveforms. An initial evaluation was conducted using k-fold cross-validation to optimize the algorithm's performance, where the testing on this secondary data yielded the best performance compared to previously proposed models, with a Coefficient of Determination (R²) of 0.999, a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.002, and a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 0.001. Subsequently, the final validation of the model was executed directly using a primary dataset from a local population to assess the system's accuracy and generalization capabilities in a real-world setting. The performance evaluation on this local validation data resulted in an R² of 0.952, an RMSE of 0.324, MAE of 0.299 and an MAPE of 2,21%. Overall, the findings of this study demonstrate that the XGBoost modeling approach is capable of predicting hemoglobin levels rapidly and entirely non-invasively. The system's efficiency is evidenced by a highly brief total operational time of only 71.90 seconds consisting of 9.97 seconds for manual data input, 60.01 seconds for PPG recording, and 1.91 seconds for prediction, making it a highly viable alternative for the implementation of independent medical monitoring.
