Abstract
The gray langur (Trachypithecus cristatus) is a folivorous primate that consumes young leaves, requiring adaptations to the oral cavity morphology to support the cutting, chewing, and processing of fibrous feed. This study aims to examine the macroanatomy of the oral cavity organs in the gray langur. The study used a female gray langur cadaver found around Saree, Seulawah Valley, Aceh Besar Regency in 2025 and stored in a freezer until used as a research sample. The organs observed included the lips, cheeks, tongue, gums, teeth, palate, and salivary glands. The results showed that the gray langur's lips are relatively thin, dark black, and have a labial frenulum. The cheeks consist of an outer surface covered with fine hair and an inner surface consisting of a smooth, moist, and shiny buccal mucosa, without cheek pouches. The tongue consists of four parts, namely the apex lingua, rostral, corpus medial et caudal and radix lingua and has four types of papillae, namely filiform, fungiform, foliate, and circumvallate. Gums are pink to reddish with dark pigmentation. Teeth consist of incisors, canines, premolars, and molars with a dental formula of I I 2/2 C 1/1 P 2/2 M 3/3 total of 32 teeth and molars with a bilophodont pattern. The palate consists of a hard palate with a wide and wide surface and a smooth surface of the soft palate. Large salivary glands (parotid glands, mandibular glands and sublingual glands). The results of the study concluded that the oral cavity of the gray langur is macroanatomically estimated to be an adaptation to the type of food consumed. Keywords: macroanatomy, oral cavity, Trachypithecus cristatus, folivorous.
