Abstract

This study aims to describe the syntactic micro-structures in President Prabowo Subianto's speeches, covering sentence forms, coherence, conditional coherence, distinguishing coherence, pronouns, and negation. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were two speeches delivered by President Prabowo Subianto: the speech before the Turkish Parliament (April 10, 2025) and the opening speech of the Plenary Cabinet Session (December 15, 2025). Both speeches were uploaded via the official YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, which served as the data source. The research data consisted of utterances from the two speeches related to syntactic micro-structures. Data collection techniques included listening, transcribing, validating, identifying, and classifying the data. Data analysis was conducted by reading the text, identifying syntactic aspects, grouping data, presenting interpretive results, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal that, in terms of sentence forms, active sentences are more dominant than passive ones. Active sentences are used to assert personal authority and build emotional closeness in international forums, whereas passive sentences are selectively used in cabinet speeches to highlight the outcomes of actions. In the coherence analysis, three types of coherence were identified, namely coherence, conditional coherence, and distinguishing coherence. Distinguishing coherence appeared only in the cabinet speech. The use of pronouns varied: the pronoun saya (I) dominated the cabinet speech, kita (we, inclusive) was used inclusively across nations, and kami (we, exclusive) was used exclusively in the international speech. Negation was found in various forms, such as bukan (not), tidak (no/not), jangan (do not), tidak perlu (need not), tidak bisa (cannot), and tanpa (without). Most of the negations functioned to reject image-building practices and uphold norms in the cabinet speech.
