[skripsi. universitas syiah kuala]. di bawah bimbingan dr. novita, s.pd,. ma., dan dra. rosmala dewi, m. p.d. limbah tekstil jeans merupakan salah satu permasalahan lingkungan yang terus meningkat akibat tingginya konsumsi produk fashion. upcycling menjadi salah satu solusi yang dapat diterapkan untuk memperpanjang masa pakai jeans bekas sekaligus mengurangi dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendesain produk, menciptakan produk, dan memperoleh tanggapan informan mengenai produk vest two in one dari jeans bekas menggunakan teknik patchwork dengan sentuhan bordir bermotif bungong apeng. penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian eksperimen terapan. objek penelitian berupa produk vest two in one hasil upcycling jeans bekas, sedangkan subjek penelitian terdiri atas dua mahasiswa tata busana fkip usk, satu fashion designer aceh dan satu tokoh adat aceh yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rancangan desain menghasilkan dua model vest two in one yang memadukan limbah jeans, teknik patchwork dan bordir motif bungong apeng. desain dibuat menggunakan aplikasi ibis paint x dengan mempertimbangkan aspek estetika, fungsi, keberlanjutan, dan pelestarian budaya. rancangan produk busana berhasil diciptakan dengan visual yang menarik dan serasi. produk pertama menerapkan konsep multifungsi yang dapat digunakan sebagai vest sekaligus tas dengan motif patchwork berbentuk square, sedangkan produk kedua menerapkan konsep reversible yang dapat digunakan dalam dua tampilan berbeda menggunakan motif patchwork parallelogram. pembuatan produk vest dinilai sudah rapi berdasarkan jahitan yang sudah rapi, penyambungan potongan patchwork yang presisi, serta penempatan bordir motif bungong apeng yang telah sesuai dengan rancangan desain. produk dinilai memiliki nilai estetika yang tinggi melalui perpaduan warna yang harmonis, kombinasi teknik patchwork dan bordir, serta penerapan motif bungong apeng yang mampu memperkuat identitas budaya aceh. hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa produk memperoleh tanggapan positif karena dinilai estetis, inovatif, rapi dan berpotensi untuk dipasarkan. selain mendukung pelestarian budaya lokal, pemanfaatan limbah jeans juga mendukung fesyen berkelanjutan dan pengurangan limbah tekstil. dengan demikian, produk yang dihasilkan memiliki nilai fungsional, estetis, budaya dan ramah lingkungan. kata kunci: upcycling, jeans bekas, vest, patchwork, bordir bungong apeng

Asmaul Husna. (2026). Upcycling Used Jeans to Create a Two in One Vest Using the Patchwork Technique with Embroidery Motif Bungong Apeng. [Thesis. Syiah Kuala University]. Under the supervision of Dr. Novita, S.Pd., M.A., and Dra. Rosmala Dewi, M.Pd. Denim textile waste is one of the growing environmental problems caused by high consumption of fashion products. Upcycling is one solution that can be applied to extend the lifespan of used jeans while reducing negative impacts on the environment. This study aims to design and create a product, as well as gather informants’ feedback on a “two-in-one” vest made from used jeans using the patchwork technique with Bungong Apeng-patterned embroidery. The study employs a qualitative approach using an applied experimental research design. The research object was the “two-in-one” vest produced through the upcycling of used jeans, while the research subjects consisted of two Fashion Design students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at USK, one fashion designer from Aceh, and one traditional Acehnese leader, all selected using purposive sampling. The research results show that the design process produced two “two-in-one” vest models that combine denim scraps, patchwork techniques, and Bungong Apeng motif embroidery. The designs were created using the Ibis Paint X app, taking into account aesthetics, functionality, sustainability, and cultural preservation. The fashion product designs were successfully created with attractive and harmonious visuals. The first product incorporates a multifunctional concept, serving as both a vest and a bag with square-shaped patchwork motifs, while the second product features a reversible design that can be worn in two distinct styles using parallelogram-shaped patchwork motifs. The products were deemed to possess high aesthetic value through their harmonious color combinations, the blend of patchwork and embroidery techniques, and the incorporation of the Bungong Apeng motif, which reinforces Aceh’s cultural identity. Interview results indicate that the product received positive feedback because it was considered aesthetically pleasing, innovative, well-made, and marketable. In addition to supporting the preservation of local culture, the use of denim scraps also promotes sustainable fashion and reduces textile waste.
