Abstrak dalam perspektif sosiologi, standar kecantikan merupakan konstruksi sosial yang membentuk kriteria tertentu yang harus dipenuhi individu, seperti tubuh langsing, kulit cerah, dan rambut lurus. film “imperfect: karier, cinta, dan timbangan” merepresentasikan bagaimana standar tersebut bekerja melalui pengalaman tokoh rara yang menghadapi tekanan sosial dari keluarga, lingkungan kerja, dan relasi sosial lainnya karena tubuhnya tidak sesuai dengan standar dominan. tekanan tersebut mendorong rara untuk melakukan transformasi fisik guna memperoleh pengakuan sosial. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dekonstruksi standar kecantikan melalui oposisi biner yang muncul dalam film, serta melihat bagaimana makna kecantikan dinegosiasikan melalui proses transformasi tokoh utama. penelitian ini menggunakan teori dekonstruksi jacques derrida dan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis wacana kritis norman fairclough. analisis dilakukan terhadap teks, dialog, dan visual film untuk mengungkap bagaimana standar kecantikan dikonstruksi, direproduksi, sekaligus dipertanyakan melalui relasi kuasa yang ada. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa standar kecantikan dibentuk melalui oposisi biner seperti gemuk vs langsing, penampilan vs kompetensi, standar industri vs tubuh aktual, serta diakui vs tidak diakui yang bersifat hierarkis. meskipun film ini membuka ruang dekonstruksi melalui pergeseran makna dan representasi alternatif, standar kecantikan tetap berfungsi sebagai mekanisme sosial yang menentukan pengakuan. dengan demikian, makna kecantikan tidak bersifat tetap, melainkan terus berada dalam proses negosiasi, namun tetap terikat pada struktur sosial yang masih direproduksi. kata kunci: dekontruksi, standar kecantikan, oposisi biner, film “imperfect: karier, cinta, dan timbangan”.

ABSTRACT From a sociological perspective, beauty standars are socially constructed norms that shape specific criteria individuals are expected to meet, such as slim bodies, fair skin, and straight hair. The film Imperfect: Career, Love, and Scales portrays how these standards operate through the experiences of Rara, who faces social pressure from her family, workplace, and surrounding relationships because her body does not conform to dominant ideals. This pressure encourages her to undergo physical transformation in order to gain social recognition. This study aims to analyze the deconstruction of beauty standards through binary oppositions represented in the film and to examine how the meaning of beauty is negotiated through the transformation of the main character. This research applies Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction theory and uses a qualitative method with Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis approach. The analysis focuses on the film’s text, dialogue, and visual elements to reveal how beauty standards are constructed, reproduced, and simultaneously questioned through existing power relations. The findings show that beauty standards are formed through hierarchical binary oppositions such as fat vs slim, appearance vs competence, industrial standards vs actual bodies, and recognized vs unrecognized. Although the film opens a space for deconstruction through shifts in meaning and alternative representations, beauty standards continue to function as a social mechanism that shapes recognition. Therefore, the meaning of beauty is not fixed, but remains in a continuous process of negotiation while still being tied to social structures that continue to reproduce it.
