Abstract

ABSTRACT The phenomenon of academic pressure during the thesis writing process has become one of the factors affecting the mental health of final-year students. Many students experience stress, emotional exhaustion, and frustration due to repeated revisions, unclear guidance from supervisors, and high expectations from lecturers and parents. These conditions lead to decreased motivation and passive behavior in the supervision process. This study aims to describe the dynamics within the thesis supervision process and their impact on the fluency and experiences of final-year students. Robert K. Merton’s theory of anomie is used to understand how students adapt to the mismatch between academic goals and the accepted means of achieving them. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques involving final-year students. The findings reveal that structural dynamics, such as communication gaps and differing expectations between students and supervisors, influence the supervision process. Students exhibit various forms of adaptation, ranging from compliance with the system, seeking alternative ways, to withdrawal due to exhaustion and frustration. These results highlight the need for a more communicative, empathetic, and mentally supportive supervision system.
