Fenomena marriage is scary yang berkembang di media sosial, khususnya tiktok, menghadirkan narasi yang menggambarkan pernikahan sebagai sesuatu yang menakutkan. paparan narasi semacam ini berpotensi memengaruhi persepsi generasi muda terhadap institusi pernikahan. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh konten marriage is scary terhadap perspektif perempuan generasi z di kota banda aceh dengan menggunakan teori kultivasi george gerbner sebagai landasan teoritis. penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional eksplanatif. data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner yang dibagikan kepada 385 responden perempuan generasi z (lahir tahun 2001–2005) di kota banda aceh yang aktif menggunakan tiktok. analisis data dilakukan melalui uji validitas, uji reliabilitas, analisis deskriptif, uji korelasi pearson product moment, serta uji regresi linear sederhana. hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif dan signifikan antara paparan konten marriage is scary dengan perspektif perempuan generasi z terhadap pernikahan, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,416 dan signifikansi 0,000. hasil uji regresi linear sederhana juga menunjukkan bahwa paparan konten marriage is scary berpengaruh signifikan terhadap perspektif perempuan generasi z terhadap pernikahan, dengan persamaan regresi y = 17,797 + 0,749x dan nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05. hal ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi paparan terhadap konten marriage is scary, maka semakin besar pengaruhnya terhadap perspektif perempuan generasi z mengenai pernikahan. temuan ini sejalan dengan teori kultivasi yang menyatakan bahwa paparan pesan media secara berulang dalam jangka panjang dapat membentuk cara pandang individu terhadap realitas sosial. dalam penelitian ini, media sosial, khususnya tiktok, berperan sebagai agen kultivasi yang menyajikan narasi serupa secara terus-menerus, sehingga berpotensi membentuk pandangan negatif terhadap pernikahan. namun demikian, faktor sosial lain seperti nilai keluarga, ajaran agama, norma budaya, dan pengalaman pribadi juga turut berperan dalam membentuk perspektif responden. kata kunci: marriage is scary, teori kultivasi, media sosial, tiktok, perspektif pernikahan, generasi z

Abstract

The Marriage Is Scary phenomenon developing on social media, especially TikTok, presents narratives that portray marriage as something frightening. Exposure to such narratives has the potential to influence young people's perceptions of the institution of marriage. This study aims to analyze the influence of Marriage Is Scary content on the perspectives of Generation Z women in Banda Aceh City regarding marriage by using George Gerbner’s Cultivation Theory as the theoretical foundation. This study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory correlational method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 385 female Generation Z respondents (born between 2001–2005) in Banda Aceh City who actively use TikTok. Data analysis was carried out through validity testing, reliability testing, descriptive analysis, Pearson Product Moment correlation test, and simple linear regression test. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between exposure to Marriage Is Scary content and the perspectives of Generation Z women toward marriage, with a correlation coefficient value of 0.416 and a significance value of 0.000. The results of the simple linear regression test also indicated that exposure to Marriage Is Scary content had a significant effect on the perspectives of Generation Z women toward marriage, with the regression equation Y = 17.797 + 0.749X and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. This indicates that the higher the exposure to Marriage Is Scary content, the greater its influence on the perspectives of Generation Z women regarding marriage. These findings are in line with Cultivation Theory, which states that repeated exposure to media messages over a long period can shape individuals’ views of social reality. In this study, social media, especially TikTok, acts as an agent of cultivation by continuously presenting similar narratives, thereby potentially shaping negative views toward marriage. However, other social factors such as family values, religious teachings, cultural norms, and personal experiences also play a role in shaping respondents’ perspectives.
