NADIA RAHMANISA, STUDI MAKROSKOPIS DAN MIKROSKOPIS GINJAL BURUNG KUNTUL KERBAU (BUBULCUS IBIS) DI DESA LAMBADA LHOK BAITUSSALAM ACEH BESAR. Banda Aceh Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan,2026

Abstract

The kidney is the main excretory organ in birds, playing a crucial role in blood filtration and the regulation of fluid and electrolyte balance. This study aimed to describe the macroscopic and microscopic structures of the kidney of the cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) inhabiting the mangrove ecosystem of Lambada Lhok Village, Aceh Besar. Five kidney samples were collected from healthy adult female birds weighing 250–350 g. A descriptive analysis was conducted through macroscopic and microscopic observations, using hematoxylin–eosin staining. Macroscopically, the kidneys were located in the synsacral cavity, reddish-brownish in color, with a firm yet fragile texture, and consisted of three lobes (cranial, medial, and caudal), with the cranial and medial lobes being larger. The mean kidney weight was 2.22 ± 0.07 g. Microscopically, the renal parenchyma was arranged into lobules without a distinct corticomedullary boundary. Two types of renal corpuscles were observed, namely reptilia renal corpuscles and mamalia renal corpuscles. This study provides baseline data on the renal morphology of adult B. ibis in a mangrove habitat, which may serve as a reference for further studies on renal physiological adaptation and waterbird health
