Penelitian ini mengkaji narasi arsitektur museum tsunami aceh sebagai media edukasi bencana yang dirancang untuk menyampaikan pengalaman ruang, pengetahuan kebencanaan, serta nilai emosional dan moral bagi pengunjung. museum ini dibangun sebagai respons atas bencana tsunami 26 desember 2004 dan telah berkembang menjadi ruang memorial sekaligus pusat pembelajaran mitigasi bencana. penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk narasi yang disampaikan museum, menentukan media bercerita yang paling dominan, serta menganalisis pengaruh narasi terhadap pemahaman perilaku tanggap bencana pengunjung. penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode naratologi museum melalui observasi partisipatif, pemetaan lapisan narasi, serta wawancara terstruktur terhadap 11 responden yang dipilih secara purposive. analisis dilakukan menggunakan tiga tingkat narasi, naratif, dan story untuk mengungkap relasi antara ruang, simbol, media visual, suara, dan pengalaman emosional. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa museum menghadirkan lima narasi utama yaitu narasi spasial, narasi visual dan simbolik, narasi auditori, narasi dokumenter dan edukatif, dan narasi emosional dan moral. dari kelima narasi tersebut, narasi spasial dan visual simbolik merupakan media bercerita yang paling dominan, karena membentuk pengalaman imersif melalui alur ruang, atmosfer, pencahayaan, dan bentuk-bentuk simbolis yang merepresentasikan kejadian tsunami. temuan lebih lanjut memperlihatkan bahwa narasi yang disampaikan museum berpengaruh signifikan terhadap pemahaman pengunjung mengenai kesiapsiagaan bencana, baik pada aspek kognitif, afektif, maupun reflektif. penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa museum tsunami aceh berperan sebagai medium komunikasi multidimensional yang efektif dalam membangun kesadaran mitigasi bencana melalui arsitektur naratif. kata kunci: museum tsunami, narasi museum, mitigasi bencana, narasi arsitektur.



Abstract

This study examines the architectural narrative of the Aceh Tsunami Museum as a disaster education medium designed to communicate spatial experience, disaster awareness, and emotional as well as moral values to visitors. The museum was established in response to the 26 December 2004 tsunami and has since functioned both as a memorial space and as a center for disaster mitigation learning. This research aims to identify the narrative forms presented by the museum, determine the most dominant storytelling media, and analyze how these narrative influence visitors’ understanding of disaster-responsive behavior. A qualitative approach was employed using a museum narratology framework through participatory observation, narrative-layer mapping, and structured interviews with 11 purposively selected respondents. Data analysis applied three levels of narrativity narration, narrative, and story to explore the relationship between spatial configuration, symbolic elements, visual media, soundscape, and emotional experiences. The findings indicate that the museum conveys five major narrative: spatial narrative, visual-symbolic narrative, auditory narrative, documentary-educational narrative, and emotional-moral narrative. Among these, spatial and visual-symbolic narrative emerge as the most dominant storytelling media, as they create immersive experiences through spatial sequencing, atmosphere, lighting, and symbolic representations of the tsunami event. Further results show that the museum’s narrative significantly influence visitors’ comprehension of disaster preparedness, shaping cognitive understanding, emotional engagement, and reflective awareness. This research concludes that the Aceh Tsunami Museum serves as an effective multidimensional communication medium that strengthens disaster mitigation awareness through architectural storytelling. The study underscores the importance of integrating experiential spatial narrative into educational and memorial institutions to foster a deeper understanding of disaster risks and preparedness.
