Gangguan saluran pencernaan merupakan salah satu masalah yang sering dilaporkan pada satwa primata, termasuk salmonellosis yang disebabkan oleh salmonella sp. penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi keberadaan salmonella sp. pada orangutan sumatera (pongo abelii) yang dipelihara di sumatran rescue alliance (sra), besitang, sumatera utara. penelitian menggunakan desain studi cross-sectional berdasarkan kerangka carter (1987). sampel feses dikumpulkan dari enam individu orangutan sumatera dan diperiksa menggunakan media selenite cystine broth (scb) dan salmonella shigella agar (ssa). identifikasi lanjutan dilakukan melalui pewarnaan gram, uji imvic (indol, methyl red, voges–proskauer, simmons citrate), sulfide indole motility (sim), triple sugar iron agar (tsia), uji fermentasi gula-gula meliputi glukosa, laktosa, sukrosa, manitol, dan maltosa, serta rapid test. seluruh sampel menunjukkan pertumbuhan bakteri pada media ssa dan memperlihatkan bakteri gram negatif berbentuk batang. uji indol dan voges–proskauer menunjukkan hasil negatif, sedangkan uji methyl red dan simmons citrate menunjukkan hasil positif pada seluruh sampel. uji sim menunjukkan adanya motilitas dan produksi hidrogen sulfida pada seluruh sampel. uji tsia menunjukkan hasil positif pada satu sampel dan negatif pada sampel lainnya. uji fermentasi gula-gula menunjukkan hasil positif pada seluruh sampel, namun satu sampel tidak memfermentasi laktosa. satu sampel memiliki kecocokan 99,9% dengan genus salmonella sp. berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disimpulkan satu dari enam sampel positif salmonella sp. pada saluran pencernaan orangutan sumatera (pongo abelii) di sra besitang, sumatera utara.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal disorders are one of the most commonly reported problems in primates, including salmonellosis caused by Salmonella sp. This study aims to identify the presence of Salmonella sp. in Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) kept at the Sumatran Rescue Alliance (SRA) in Besitang, North Sumatra. The study used a cross-sectional design based on Carter's (1987) framework. Fecal samples were collected from six Sumatran orangutans and examined using Selenite Cystine Broth (SCB) and Salmonella Shigella Agar (SSA) media. Further identification was performed through Gram staining, IMViC (Indole, Methyl Red, Voges–Proskauer, Simmons Citrate) test, Sulfide Indole Motility (SIM), Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA), sugar fermentation tests including glucose, lactose, sucrose, mannitol, and maltose, as well as rapid tests. All samples showed bacterial growth on SSA media and exhibited Gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria. The Indole and Voges–Proskauer tests showed negative results, while the Methyl Red and Simmons Citrate tests showed positive results in all samples. The SIM test showed motility and hydrogen sulfide production in all samples. The TSIA test showed positive results in one sample and negative results in the other samples. Sugar fermentation tests showed positive results in all samples, but one sample did not ferment lactose. One sample had a 99.9% match with the genus Salmonella sp. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that one of the six samples was positive for Salmonella sp. in the digestive tract of Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) in SRA Besitang, North Sumatra.
