ASMAR SURBA SYAFUTRA GULTOM, IDENTIFIKASI CACING GASTROINTESTINAL PADA BURUNG KUNTUL KERBAU (BUBULCUS IBIS) DI DESA LAMBADA LHOK KECAMATAN BAITUSSALAM KABUPATEN ACEH BESAR. Banda Aceh Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan,2026

Abstract

Gastrointestinal worms are parasites that have a predilection for the digestive tract and can potentially damage the tissues of the organs in which they develop, thereby reducing the health condition of their hosts. The cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) is known to be one of the hosts at risk of gastrointestinal worm infection. This study aimed to identify the types of gastrointestinal worms infecting cattle egrets in Lambada Lhok Village, Baitussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency. The research samples consisted of feces collected from 20 cattle egrets captured in the mangrove forest area of Lambada Lhok Village. This study was an observational study in which the samples were analyzed descriptively using centrifugation and sedimentation techniques on cattle egret feces. Identification was carried out based on egg morphology, including shape, shell thickness, contents, color and egg size. The results showed that all samples (100%) were positive for gastrointestinal worm infection, occurring as single, double, and multiple infections. The types of worm eggs identified were Contracaecum sp. and Desportesius sp. from the class Nematoda, and Echinostoma sp. and Clinostomum sp. from the class Trematoda. These findings indicate that cattle egrets at the study site were infected with various species of gastrointestinal worms.
