Penelitian ini berjudul “rex peunayong sebagai pusat kuliner pertama di banda aceh (1980-2025)”, yang bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan awal kemunculan rex peunayong sebagai pusat wisata kuliner pertama di kota banda aceh. (2) mendeskripsikan perkembangan rex peunayong.(3) menganalisis upaya rex peunayong dalam mempertahankan eksistensinya sebagai tempat kuliner di kota banda aceh. penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan naratif dari jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan metode sejarah. pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan beberapa teknik; tinjauan pustaka, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. hasil penelitian adalah: (1) rex peunayong muncul dari halaman rex theater yang menjadi tempat perkumpulan para pedagang dan ramai dikunjungi pelajar serta penonton bioskop. (2) perkembangan rex peunayong mengalami pasang surut sejak kemunculannya pada awal kemunculannya hingag satu dekade pasca rekonstruksi oleh pemerintah kota banda aceh (1980-2010), rex peunayong masih menjadi tujuan favorit kuliner malam bagi masyarakat. pasca pandemi covid-19 dan pascarevitalisasi tahun 2022, rex mengalami penurunan dari segi jumlah pengunjung yang dipengaruhi oleh kemunculan sejumlah warung kopi yang memakai konsep rex. (3) hal yang menjadikan rex bertahan dalam persaingan tempat kuliner di banda aceh adalah cita rasa yang ditawarkan para pedagang.

This study , entitled "Rex Peunayong as the First Culinary Center in Banda Aceh (1980-2025)," aims to: (1) Describe the initial emergence of Rex Peunayong as the first culinary tourism center in Banda Aceh City.(2) Describe the development of Rex Peunayong. (3) Analyze Rex Peunayong's efforts to maintain its existence as a culinary destination in Banda Aceh City. This research uses a narrative approach from a qualitative research type with historical methods. Data collection was carried out using several techniques: literature review, documentation, and interviews. The results of the research are: (1) Rex Peunayong emerged from the courtyard of the Rex Theater which became a gathering place for traders and was busy with students and moviegoers. (2) The development of Rex Peunayong has experienced ups and downs since its emergence. From its initial emergence until a decade after reconstruction by the Banda Aceh City government (1980-2010), Rex Peunayong remained a favorite nighttime culinary destination for the community. Following the COVID-19 pandemic and the revitalization in 2022, Rex experienced a decline in visitor numbers, influenced by the emergence of several coffee shops adopting the Rex concept. (3) What makes Rex survive in the culinary competition in Banda Aceh is the taste offered by the vendors.
