[undergraduate thesis. universitas syiah kuala]. under the supervision of prof. dr. asnawi, s. pd., m.ed., and diana, s. pd., m.ed. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan youtube video dengan bahasa inggris subtitle dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas dua di smp negeri 8 banda aceh selama tahun pelajaran 2025/2026. studi ini menggunakan penelitian pra-eksperimental dengan satu kelompok pra-tes desain pasca-tes. sampelnya terdiri dari 32 siswa, dipilih melalui purposive sampling dari total populasi 218 siswa. instrumen utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes, dan data diperoleh dari hasil pretest dan posttest. data yang dikumpulkan adalah dianalisis dengan rumus statistik. analisis menunjukkan bahwa pretest rata-rata skornya adalah 36,63, sedangkan rata-rata skor posttest meningkat menjadi 52,13 setelah implementasi youtube dengan subtitle bahasa inggris. hal ini menunjukkan peningkatan sebesar 15,50% dalam kinerja students’. selanjutnya hasil analisis data juga menunjukkan bahwa t-count (20,484) lebih tinggi dari t-table (2,039), sehingga ha diterima dan ho ditolak. oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan video youtube dengan teks bahasa inggris dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara di kelas dua siswa smp negeri 8 banda aceh. keywords: english subtitles, speaking skills, youtube

This research aims to determine whether the use of YouTube Video with English subtitles can significantly improve the speaking skills of second-grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh during the 2025/2026 academic year. This study used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The sample consisted of 32 students, selected through purposive sampling from a total population of 218 students. The primary instrument used in this study was a test, and the data were obtained from pretest and posttest results. The collected data were analyzed using statistical formulas. The analysis indicated that the average pretest score was 36.63, while the average posttest score increased to 52.13 after the implementation of YouTube with English subtitles. This shows an improvement of 15.50% in students’ performance. Furthermore, the result of the data analysis also showed that t-count (20.484) was higher that the t-table (2.039), so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of YouTube video with English subtitles can significantly improve the speaking skills of second-grade students at SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh.
