Abstract

Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (DR TB) remains a major challenge in TB control patrticulary among patient with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), which can influence disease progression and treatment response. This study employed a descriptive retrospective design using medical record data of pulmonary DR TB patients with T2DM at the MDR Clinic of RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh in October 2025, utilizing a total sampling method with 20 patients. The results showed that most patients were aged 45–59 years (50%) and male (60%). The most commonly diagnosed type of pulmonary DR TB was Multidrug Resistance (MDR) TB (60%). Most patients presented with typical pulmonary TB symptoms (100%), had a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) (55%), a DM duration of less than 1 year (55%), and a comorbid condition of hypertension (10%). All patients had HbA1c levels >8% (100%), and radiological findings were predominantly infiltrate (90%), fibrosis (45%), and cavitations (25%). The majority had no prior contact with TB cases (65%), had a history of previous TB treatment (60%), received combination therapy for DM (70%), and underwent DR TB treatment with the BPaL regimen (70%). These findings indicate that pulmonary DR TB patients with T2DM were predominantly MDR cases with hypertension as a common comorbidity and presented with typical pulmonary TB symptoms. This study provides an initial overview of the characteristics of pulmonary DR TB patients with T2DM at RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh.
