Escherichia coli adalah bakteri gram negatif yang dapat bertindak sebagai patogen oportunistik dan penyebab infeksi sekunder pada inang yang rentan, termasuk burung walet (aerodramus fuciphagus). keberadaan escherichia coli patogen dapat mengancam kesehatan populasi walet dan produktivitas sarang. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi keberadaan e. coli patogen dari spesimen burung walet. metode yang digunakan adalah cross sectional study. isolasi dilakukan berdasarkan carter (1987) dengan menanam sampel pada media selektif eosin methylene blue agar (emba), dilanjutkan ke sorbitol-macconkey agar (smac), dan diinkubasi pada suhu 37° selama 24 jam. identifikasi didasarkan pada karakteristik morfologi koloni. dari total 25 sampel yang diperiksa, ditemukan 22 sampel positif (88%) e. coli patogen. hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa e. coli pathogen dapat diisolasi pada burung walet. kata kunci: escherichia coli, patogen, isolasi, burung walet, aerodramus fuciphagus

Escherichia coli is a Gram negative bacterium thatcan act as an opportunistic pathogen and cause secondary infections insusceptible hosts, including swiftlets (Aerodramus fuciphagus).The presence of pathogenic E. coli can threaten the health of swiftlet populationsand nest productivity. This study aimed to isolate and identify the presence of pathogenic E. coli from swiftlet specimens. A cross sectional study method was used. Isolationwas performed based on Carter (1987) by planting samples on selective Eosin Methylene Blue Agar (EMBA) media, followed by Sorbitol-MacConkey Agar (SMAC), and incubation at 37°C for 24 hours. Identification was based on themorphological characteristics of the colonies. Out of a total of 25 samples examined, 22 samples(88%) were found to be positive for pathogenic Escherichia coli. These results indicate that E. coli pathogens can be isolated from swiftlets. Keywords: Escherichia coli, pathogen, isolation, swiftlet, Aerodramus fuciphagus
