Masa awal perkuliahan merupakan fase transisi bagi mahasiswa baru, kemampuan berkomunikasi menjadi keterampilan penting untuk membangun hubungan dengan orang lain dan mendukung proses perkuliahan. oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan efikasi diri yang baik pula untuk dapat menghadapi tantangan pada dunia perkuliahan, khususnya pada tuntutan untuk memiliki keterampilan berkomunikasi interpersonal. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self efficacy dengan komunikasi interpersonal pada mahasiswa tahun pertama. subjek dalam penelitian ini melibatkan 446 mahasiswa universitas syiah kuala yang berada pada tahun pertama. metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan teknik propotionate stratified random sampling. prosedur pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan interpersonal communication inventory (ici) yang dikembangkan oleh bienvenu & stewart (1976) dan general self efficacy scale yang dikembangkan oleh schwarzer & jerusalem (1995) berdasarkan teori bandura (1977) yang kemudian diadaptasi oleh peneliti ke dalam versi bahasa indonesia. hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang signifikan antara self efficacy dengan komunikasi interpersonal (p

The early period of college life is a transitional phase for first-year students, during which communication skills become an essential ability to build relationships with others and support the learning process. Therefore, good self-efficacy is also required to face the challenges of university life, particularly the demands of possessing interpersonal communication skills. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and interpersonal communication among first-year students. The subjects of this study involved 446 first-year students at Syiah Kuala University. The method used in this research was quantitative with a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The data collection procedure utilized the Interpersonal Communication Inventory (ICI) developed by Bienvenu & Stewart (1976) and the General Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Schwarzer & Jerusalem (1995) based on Bandura’s (1977) theory, which was then adapted by the researcher into the Indonesian version. The results showed a significant positive relationship between self-efficacy and interpersonal communication (p < 0.001) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.493, indicating that the correlation in this study is positive. This means that the higher a person’s level of self-efficacy, the higher their level of interpersonal communication. Conversely, the lower the self-efficacy, the lower the interpersonal communication skills.
