[skripsi. universitas syiah kuala]. dibawah bimbingan drs. martunis, m.si dan hetti zuliani, m.pd., ph.d. masa remaja merupakan periode krusial dalam pembentukan identitas dan pengembangan keterampilan sosial, yang menjadi fondasi penting bagi adaptasi individu di lingkungan masyarakat. kompetensi sosial, sebagai kemampuan esensial dalam berinteraksi, menyesuaikan diri, dan membangun hubungan interpersonal yang sehat, memegang peranan vital dalam keberhasilan hidup remaja. remaja piatu, terutama mereka yang telah kehilangan sosok ibu sebagai pengasuh utama, proses perkembangan sosial-emosional ini dapat menghadapi tantangan yang kompleks. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran kompetensi sosial yang dimiliki remaja piatu di smp yang berada di wilayah kecamatan darul makmur. menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini melibatkan 11 siswa piatu dari tiga smp di kecamatan darul makmur (smpn 2, smpn 5, dan smpn 12). data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, serta didukung oleh wawancara dengan guru wali kelas. analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi, penyajian, dan penarikan kesimpulan. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum, remaja piatu di wilayah darul makmur memiliki tingkat kompetensi sosial yang cenderung baik, terutama pada aspek empati dan kerja sama (kooperatif). mereka menunjukkan kepekaan emosional yang baik terhadap teman sebaya dan mampu beradaptasi dalam kerja kelompok. meskipun demikian, ditemukan kesulitan signifikan pada aspek asertivitas dan pengendalian diri, banyak siswa cenderung pasif dalam menyampaikan pendapat, kurang percaya diri, dan menunjukkan kerapuhan emosional seperti mudah marah atau tersinggung. aspek tanggung jawab juga bervariasi, dipengaruhi oleh kondisi keluarga dan dukungan pengasuh. faktor- faktor seperti kualitas dukungan dari keluarga pengganti, peran lingkungan sekolah, dan interaksi dengan teman sebaya sangat memengaruhi perkembangan kompetensi sosial mereka, di samping kendala ekonomi dan beban tanggung jawab domestik. kata kunci: kompetensi sosial, remaja piatu, smp, darul makmur

Martunis, M.Si and Hetti Zuliani, M.Pd., Ph.D. Adolescence is a critical period in the formation of identity and the development of social skills, which serve as an important foundation for an individual's adaptation to society. Social competence, as an essential ability in interacting, adapting, and building healthy interpersonal relationships, plays a vital role in the success of adolescents' lives. Orphaned adolescents, especially those who have lost their mothers as primary caregivers, may face complex challenges in this social- emotional development process. This study aims to determine the social competence of orphaned adolescents in junior high schools in the Darul Makmur subdistrict. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative method, this study involved 11 orphaned students from three junior high schools in the Darul Makmur subdistrict (SMPN 2, SMPN 5, and SMPN 12). Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and supplemented by interviews with homeroom teachers. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that, in general, orphaned adolescents in the Darul Makmur region have a relatively high level of social competence, particularly in terms of empathy and cooperation. They demonstrate good emotional sensitivity toward peers and are able to adapt well in group work. However, significant difficulties were found in the areas of assertiveness and self- control, with many students tending to be passive in expressing their opinions, lacking confidence, and exhibiting emotional fragility such as easily getting angry or offended. Responsibility also varies, influenced by family conditions and caregiver support. Factors such as the quality of support from foster families, the role of the school environment, and interactions with peers significantly influence the development of their social competence, alongside economic constraints and domestic responsibilities.
