Abstrak penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan buku cerita bergambar dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas dua smp negeri 18 banda aceh pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025. penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian pra-eksperimental dengan desain one group pre-test post-test. sampel penelitian dipilih menggunakan purposive sampling dengan 30 siswa dari total populasi 165 siswa. instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes dengan 10 pertanyaan pilihan ganda. data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan pre-test dan post-test. peneliti menganalisis hasil data menggunakan rumus statistik. hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa skor rata-rata siswa pada pre-test adalah 38,00, sedangkan setelah menggunakan buku cerita bergambar skor rata-rata siswa meningkat menjadi 69,00 pada post-test. skor post-test siswa 31,00% lebih tinggi daripada skor pre-test mereka. hasil analisis data juga menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung (13,993) lebih tinggi daripada t-tabel (2,048), sehingga ha diterima dan ho ditolak. hal ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hasil yang signifikan dari penggunaan buku cerita bergambar dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas dua smp negeri 18 banda aceh. kata kunci: buku cerita bergambar, pemahaman membaca, teks naratif

Abstract This study aims to find out whether the use of picture storybook can increase students’ reading comprehension at second grade students of SMP Negeri 18 Banda Aceh in the 2024/2025 academic year. This study used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test design. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling with 30 students from a total population of 165 students. The instrument of this study was a test with 10 multiple-choice questions. The data was collected by using pre-test and post-test. The researcher analyzed the result of the data using statistical formula. The result of the data analysis showed that the students' average score of pre-test was 38.00, while after using Picture Storybook the students' average score increases to 69.00 in post-test. Students' post-test scores were 31.00% higher than their pretest scores. The result of the data analysis also showed that t-count (13.993) was higher that the t-table (2.048), so Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It revealed that there are significant results of using Picture Storybook in increasing students' reading comprehension at second grade students of SMP Negeri 18 Banda Aceh.
