Abstract
ABSTRACT Problematic Internet Use is conceptualized as a multidimensional syndrome characterized by cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dysregulation in internet usage, which interferes with an individual's ability to manage daily functioning. One of the psychological factors that may contribute to the development of Problematic Internet Use is celebrity worship, defined as a one-sided emotional attachment marked by obsessive admiration toward one or more celebrities. This study aims to investigate the relationship between celebrity worship and problematic internet use among emerging adults who identify as K-Pop fans. The research employed a quantitative correlational design with a non-probability incidental sampling technique, involving 150 emerging adult K-Pop fans residing in Banda Aceh. Data were collected using the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) and the Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS-2), both of which were adapted into the Indonesian language. Statistical analysis using Pearson Product Moment Correlation revealed a significant positive relationship between celebrity worship and problematic internet use, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.533 and a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that higher levels of celebrity worship are associated with a greater tendency toward problematic patterns of internet use, highlighting the need for increased awareness regarding the psychological risks of excessive parasocial engagement in digital environments.
