Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi karakteristik bittern atau limbah garam yang dihasilkan dari diproses pembuatan garam dengan metode memasak dan geomembran di desa cebrek, kecamatan simpang tiga, kabupaten pidie. karakteristik limbah garam diukur berdasarkan konsentrasi unsur, konduktivitas elektrolit, densitas, tingkat keasaman/basa, tingkat kepekatan, dan warna. metode yang digunakan meliputi analisis komposisi kimia bittern menggunakan aas, analisis konduktivitas elektrolit menggunakan bentchop meter, metode piknometri untuk densitas, analisis tingkat keasaman/basa larutan menggunakan ph meter, analisis kadar kepekatan menggunakan baume meter, dan analisis warna menggunakan pt co (platinum cobalt). hasil uji komposisi kimia menunjukkan bahwa secara umum limbah garam dengan metode memasak memiliki kadar unsur magnesium, kalium, natrium dan sulfat lebih tinggi dari pada metode geomembran. hasil uji konduktivitas elektrolit limbah garam geomembran menunjukkan konduktivitas elektrolit lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan konduktifitas elektrolit larutan limbah garam masak. hasil uji densitas limbah garam geomembran memiliki densitas lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan limbah garam memasak. selanjutnya hasil dari uji kepekatan, tingkat kaasaman basa larutan, dan warna menunjukkan limbah garam masak memiliki nilai paling tinggi di bandingkan dengan limbah garam geomembran, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa bittern (limbah garam) berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan baku industri kimia, pupuk, logam, elektrolit baterai, serta agen pengolahan air limbah. namun, pemanfaatannya memerlukan proses pemurnian agar sesuai standar industri. kata kunci : karakteristik bittern, sifat fisis, sifat kimia, komposisi, metode memasak, metode geomembran  



Abstract

This study identifies the characteristics of bittern or salt waste produced from the salt-making process using the cooking and geomembrane methods in Cebrek Village, Simpang Tiga District, Pidie Regency. The characteristics of the salt waste were measured based on element concentrations, electrolyte conductivity, density, acidity/alkalinity levels, concentration levels, and color. The methods used included chemical composition analysis of bittern using AAS, electrolyte conductivity analysis using a benchtop meter, pycnometric method for density, acidity/alkalinity analysis of the solution using a pH meter, concentration level analysis using a Baume meter, and color analysis using the Pt-Co (Platinum Cobalt) scale. The results of the chemical composition test show that, in general, salt waste produced by the cooking method contains higher levels of magnesium, potassium, sodium, and sulfate compared to the geomembrane method. The electrolyte conductivity test results of geomembrane salt waste show higher conductivity compared to that of the cooking method salt waste. The density test results indicate that geomembrane salt waste has a higher density than cooking method salt waste. Furthermore, the results of the concentration, pH level, and color tests show that cooking method salt waste has the highest values compared to geomembrane salt waste. Therefore, it can be concluded that bittern (salt waste) has potential for use as a raw material in the chemical, fertilizer, metal, battery electrolyte, and wastewater treatment industries. However, its utilization requires a purification process to meet industrial standards.
