Hendrian Hadi Permana, PERSEPSI PERAWAT DAN PASIEN TERHADAP PENERAPAN TERAPI GENERALIS PADA PASIEN SKIZOFRENIA DENGAN RISIKO PERILAKU KEKERASAN DI RUMAH SAKIT JIWA: SUATU STUDI FENOMENOLOGI. Banda Aceh Fakultas Keperawatan (S2),2025

Abstract

The rising incidence of schizophrenia accompanied by a risk of violent behavior presents a significant challenge in mental health nursing services. Generalist therapy, implemented through the Strategy of Implementation (SI), serves as a holistic approach to support emotional regulation and enhance patients’ quality of life. This study employed a descriptive phenomenological approach, involving 10 purposively selected nurses and 10 patients at Aceh Mental Hospital as key informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi’s method. Data analysis revealed three major themes from the nurses’ perspectives: (1) the effectiveness of SI, (2) barriers to the implementation of generalist therapy, and (3) strategies used by nurses to improve therapeutic outcomes. From the patients’ perspectives, three themes emerged: (1) the effectiveness of SI in emotional regulation, (2) the strengthening of resilience, and (3) challenges in the implementation of SI. Nurses identified SI2 (adherence to medication) as the foundational component, while SI1 (deep breathing) and SI4 (spiritual practices) were considered the most beneficial for emotional regulation. Key obstacles included limited infrastructure, high workload, insufficient training, and lack of managerial support. Generalist therapy was found to positively contribute to the recovery process of patients with schizophrenia at risk of violent behavior. It is recommended that hospitals develop more comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for SI implementation, reinforce the role of multidisciplinary teams, increase support staff such as administrative personnel, transport officers, and security personnel to reduce the burden on nurses, provide dedicated therapeutic spaces, and offer ongoing training to enhance nurses’ competencies in delivering therapeutic interventions.
