BELA LESTARI, HUBUNGAN ANTARA FATHER ATTACHMENT DAN EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING PADA ANAK PEREMPUAN. Banda Aceh Psikologi Fakultas kedokteran,

Abstract

Emotional mental disorders have been commonly found in young adult women in recent decades, affecting the emotional well-being of this age group. Emotional well-being dominated by negative emotions puts individuals at risk of anxiety and depression. Emotional well-being is closely related to the relationship between daughters and their fathers, referred to as father attachment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between father attachment and emotional well-being in young women. This quantitative correlational study involved 390 female university students aged 18–24 years at Banda Aceh University. Data collection techniques included multistage cluster sampling and disproportionate stratified random sampling. The measurement tools used were the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Revised (IPPA- Father Attachment subscale) and the Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE). Hypothesis testing was conducted using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation technique. The results of the hypothesis testing showed a Pearson correlation coefficient between IPPA R and SPANE-P of (r) = 0.415 (p < 0.05), while the Pearson correlation coefficient between IPPA-R and SPANE-N was (r) = -0.255 (p < 0.05). These results indicate that an increase in father attachment is accompanied by an increase in positive affect, while a decrease in father attachment is accompanied by an increase in negative affect. The conclusions of this study suggest that secure attachment between daughters and fathers fosters good emotional well being, which can help daughters cope with internalization issues. Keywords: early adult women, emotional well-being, father attachment
