Abstrak penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sebaran dan karakteristik mating ring kuau raja (argusianus argus) di stasiun penelitian (sp) soraya, aceh. penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan april hingga juli 2024. metode yang digunakan adalah metode jelajah untuk mengetahui sebaran mating ring dan metode purposive sampling untuk analisis vegetasi pada sekitar mating ring dengan menempatkan sebanyak 40 plot berukuran 20 x 20 m, yang diletakkan di sekitar mating ring. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 10 mating ring yang tersebar di area seluas 500 ha pada ketinggian antara 120-207 mdpl dengan tingkat kemiringan antara 2-19˚. kuau raja di sp soraya cenderung membuat mating ring pada lokasi dengan topografi landai atau datar. analisis terhadap karateristik menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata keliling mating ring di sps adalah 26,8 m dengan rata-rata luas mencapai 58,07 m2. adapun karakteristik lainnya antara lain rata-rata suhu udara 27˚c, suhu tanah 27,3˚c, intensitas cahaya 378,4 lux, kelembaban 76,5%, dan ph tanah 6,6. indeks keanekaragaman pohon pada sekitar mating ring tergolong tinggi dengan nilai h` mencapai 4,43 > 3. damli (streblus elongatus) dan cempedak air (artocarpus sp.) merupakan jenis pohon dengan dominansi nilai inp tertinggi pada beberapa mating ring. beberapa faktor yang diduga berpengaruh besar terhadap jumlah pohon di sekitar mating ring antara lain ketinggian, intensitas cahaya, keliling/diameter, serta jumlah spesies, hal diduga dipengaruhi oleh dominansi dari famili dipterocarpaceae yang ditemukan pada mayoritas mating ring. kaitan yang erat antara keberadaan mating ring kuau raja dengan kualitas habitat dapat dijadikan sebagai referensi terkait perlindungan habitat kuau raja terutama di stasiun penelitian soraya, aceh. kata kunci : kuau raja, mating ring, sebaran, karakteristik

ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the distribution and characteristics of the Great argus (Argusianus argus) mating ring at the Soraya Research Station, Aceh. This study was conducted from April to July 2024. The method used was the exploration method to determine the distribution of mating rings and the purposive sampling method for vegetation analysis around the mating ring by placing 40 plots measuring 20 x 20 m, around the mating ring. The results showed that there were 10 mating rings spread over an area of 500 ha at an altitude of between 120 and 207 meters above sea level with a slope of between 2 and 19˚. The Great argus in SPS tends to make mating rings in locations with flat topography. Analysis of the characteristics shows that the average circumference of the mating ring in SPS is 26.8 m, with an average area reaching 58.07 m2. Other characteristics include an average air temperature of 27˚C, soil temperature of 27.3˚C, light intensity of 378.4 lux, humidity of 76.5%, and soil pH of 6.6. The tree diversity index around the mating ring is relatively high, with an H` value reaching 4.43 > 3. Damli (Streblus elongatus) and Cempedak air (Artocarpus sp.) are tree species with the highest INP dominance in several mating rings. Several factors that are thought to have a major influence on the number of trees around the mating ring include height, light intensity, tree circumference/diameter, and number of species, which are thought to be influenced by the dominance of the Dipterocarpaceae family found in the majority of mating rings. The strong correlation between the existence of the kuau raja and habitat quality can be used as reference regarding the protection of habitat, especially at the Soraya Research Station, Aceh.
