Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis karakteristik sedimen di kawasan mangrove aceh jaya (kmaj) dan kawasan mangrove aceh barat (kmab) guna memahami distribusi ukuran butir serta pola sebarannya. penelitian ini penting karena karakteristik sedimen berperan dalam stabilitas ekosistem mangrove dan dapat memengaruhi keberlanjutan ekosistem pesisir. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan membandingkan karakteristik sedimen di kawasan mangrove berdasarkan identifikasi berat fraksi sedimen. metode yang digunakan melibatkan pengayakan sedimen dengan sieve shaker di laboratorium, kemudian hasilnya yang sudah dipersentasekan, dianalisis menggunakan program gradistat dengan operasi cumulative frequency curve, frequency distribution curve, dan diagram folk & ward untuk menentukan klasifikasi sedimen berdasarkan ukuran butirnya. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sedimen di kmaj didominasi oleh medium sand, sementara di kmab dominan medium sand dan fine sand. kurva distribusi menunjukkan variasi ukuran butir yang berbeda di setiap lokasi, dengan kmaj memiliki distribusi yang lebih seragam dibandingkan kmab. diagram folk & ward mengindikasikan bahwa sedimen di kedua kawasan didominasi oleh sand dengan variasi gravelly sand di kmab. temuan ini memberikan informasi penting bagi konservasi dan pengelolaan ekosistem mangrove, khususnya dalam menjaga keseimbangan sedimen di kawasan pesisir.

Abstract
This study was conducted to analyze sediment characteristics in Aceh Jaya Mangrove Area (KMAJ) and West Aceh Mangrove Area (KMAB) to understand grain size distribution and distribution patterns. This research is important because sediment characteristics play a role in the stability of mangrove ecosystems and can affect the sustainability of coastal ecosystems. This study aims to analyze and compare sediment characteristics in mangrove areas based on sediment fraction weight identification. The method used involved sieving the sediment with a sieve shaker in the laboratory, then the results, which had been percented, were analyzed using the GRADISTAT program with the Cumulative Frequency Curve, Frequency Distribution Curve, and Folk & Ward Diagram operations to determine the classification of sediments based on grain size. The results showed that the sediments in KMAJ were dominated by medium sand, while those in KMAB were dominated by medium sand and fine sand. The distribution curves show different grain size variations at each site, with KMAJ having a more uniform distribution than KMAB. Folk & Ward diagrams indicate that sediments in both areas are dominated by sand with gravelly sand in KMAB. These findings provide important information for the conservation and management of mangrove ecosystems, particularly in maintaining sediment balance in coastal areas.
