Abstract

ABSTRACT Caring behavior is a crucial aspect of nursing care that significantly contributes to the quality of healthcare services. The absence of caring behavior in nursing practice can create a gap between nurses and patients, ultimately lowering the quality of care provided. This study aimed to examine the differences in nurses’ caring behavior toward patients in Class I and Class II inpatient wards at Meuraxa Regional General Hospital, Banda Aceh. This quantitative research used a descriptive comparative design. The study population consisted of Class I and II inpatients, with a total sample of 156 patients selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Caring Assessment Tool questionnaire, and analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods. The results showed that 94.4% of Class I inpatients rated nurses’ caring behavior as good, while 5.1% rated it as poor. Meanwhile, 88.5% of Class II inpatients rated nurses’ caring behavior as good, and 11.5% rated it as poor. The Mann-Whitney test indicated that there is a difference in nurses’ caring behavior between the two groups with a p-value = 0.008 < 0.05. It is recommended that nurses continue to maintain empathy, effective communication, and attentiveness during the nursing care process to ensure optimal service quality.
