Abstract name : meutia studentno. : 0906102050072 study program : english education title : using snowball throwing technique in improving students’ reading comprehension (an experimental research at the second grade students of sma inshafuddin banda aceh) key word: reading comprehension, snowball throwing, and narrative text. the study is intended to find out whether the snowball throwing technique improves the students’ reading comprehension at the second grade of sma inshafuddin banda aceh or not. quantitative approach with experimental study of one group pre-test post-test design was undertaken to overcome the problems faced by the students in understanding narrative text. the instrument used to collect the data was objective test. in addition, to analyze the data, the writer used some statistical formula. the finding shows that, the mean score in the post-test was increased compared to the mean score in the pre-test. in the pre-test, the mean score was 50.33, and in the post-test was 76-67. furthermore, t-test was 11.58 and t-table was 2.045. the significant level used in this study was 0.05. because the value of t-test was higher than t-table (11.58>2.045), ha was accepted and ho was rejected. based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that teaching reading by using snowball throwing technique can improve the students’ reading comprehension. snowball throwing technique can be one of the alternative technique in teaching english particularly teaching reading in efl class.
