This study aims at examining whether the implementation of questioning technique improves students’ ability in reading narrative text or not. the population of this study is second grade students at sman 2 banda aceh, while the sample of this study is 2mia6 class which is consisted of 30 students as experimental class and 2mia5 which is consisted of 30 students as control class. quantitative approach with experimental study of one group pre-test post-test and one group for control class design is undertaken to overcome the problems faced by the students in learning reading skill. this study is focussed on improving students’ ability in reading narrative text in the aspects of main idea, inference, reference, detail and vocabulary. the instrument used to collect the data in this study was test. the collected data were analyzed by using statisctical formula as suggested by sudjana (2006). the finding showed that there is a better improvement on students’ reading skill after questioning technique implemented. the mean score of pre-test for ec is 67 and the mean score of post test for ec is 72.58. meanwhile, the mean score of pre-test for cc is 60.73 and the mean score of post test for cc is 60.53. the result proves that the alternative hypothesis (ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (ho) is rejected. in conclusion, questioning technique improves students’ reading skill better in the aspect of main idea, inference, reference, detail and vocabulary. therefore, the writer concludes that teaching reading narrative text by using questioning technique give good effect for students’ ability in reading aspects; main idea, inference, reference, detail and vocabulary.
