Abstract name : mahyar diyanti student no. : 0906102020067 study program : english education title : the application of collaborative strategic reading in teaching reading skill (an experimental research at sman 6 banda aceh) keywords: collaborative strategic reading (csr), reading skill the aim of this study is to know whether the collaborative strategic reading (csr) has significant effect on students’ achievement in reading skill in terms of understanding the main idea, elicit supporting details, and identifying inferences. this study was approached quantitatively through an experimental method, one group pretest-post-test design. the third grade students in sman 6 banda aceh were taken as the population of this study, and the sample was class xii-ia4. the result of the study shows that there was a significant effect on students’ reading skill achievement by applying the collaborative strategic reading (csr). by comparing the post-test and the pre-test score, the researcher found the significant result. the mean score of the pre-test and post-test scores were 55.25 and 7. the difference between the two means was 19.75. in addition, the researcher also found the significant improve on student’s achievement in each aspect of the reading skill. the mean scores of the main ideas, details, and inferences in pre-test were 17.25, 16.5, and 21.5, while in post-test the scores were 24.25, 24.75, and 26. furthermore, the result of t-test revealed that the obtained value (14.83) was higher than the table value (2.093). in other words, the alternative hypothesis (ha) that is, if the collaborative strategic reading (csr) was used in the instructional process of teaching reading skill, the students’ achievement of reading skill will be significantly improved, was accepted.
