Diabetes melitus tipe 2 merupakan penyakit metabolisme akibat gangguan sekresi insulin yang mengakibatkan resistensi insulin dan kesalahan fungsi sel β pankreas. insulin ialah hormon alami yang dikeluarkan oleh pankreas agar glukosa dari makanan dapat masuk ke dalam sel-sel tubuh untuk diubah menjadi energi yang dibutuhkan oleh otot dan jaringan. penggunaan streptozotocin telah sering digunakan untuk menginduksi dm tipe 2, senyawa ini bekerja dengan membentuk radikal bebas yang dapat merusak sel β pankreas, sehingga produksi insulin dapat terganggu. efek toksiknya bersifat lebih selektif terhadap sel β pancreas karena berdasarkan struktur kimia stz yang memiliki gugus glukosa sehingga mempermudah masuknya stz ke sel beta karena sel beta pankreas lebih aktif mengambil glukosa dibanding sel lainnya. stz bekerja dengan membentuk radikal bebas yang dapat merusak sel beta pankres, sehingga produksi insulin dapat terganggu. stz memasuki sel beta pankreas melalui glucose transporter 2 (glut 2) dan menyebabkan alkilasi dna. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat gambaran histopatologis jantung tikus putih jantan model diabetes mellitus tipe 2 yang diinduksi stz. penelitian ini menggunakan 20 ekor tikus putih jantan yang dibagi dalam empat kelompok. kelompok kontrol positif (p0), kelompok perlakuan pertama (p1) diberikan diet tinggi lemak dan stz 20 dosis mg/kg bb, kelompok perlakuan kedua (p2) diet tinggi lemak dan stz 30 dosis mg/kg bb, kelompok perlakuan ketiga (p3) diet tinggi lemak dan stz dosis 40 mg/kg bb. penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (ral) pola searah dengan tipe post-test only control group design. data hasil pengamatan kerusakan histopatologis dianalisis dengan analisis of variance (anova) dilanjutkan dengan uji duncan jika terdapat perbedaan yang nyata (p
