T.M. Febriansyah, HUBUNGAN KAUSALITAS PARTICULATE MATTER DAN LAMA PAPARAN TERHADAP KELUHAN RESPIRASI DAN KELAINAN FUNGSI PARU PENGRAJIN BATU BATA DI ACEH BESAR. Banda Aceh Fakultas Kedokteran,2024

Abstract

Brick craftsmen are at high risk of exposure to Particulate Matter (PM) produced from burning bricks which causes respiratory problems. The research aims to determine the relationship between PM and length of exposure to respiratory complaints and lung function abnormalities in brick craftsmen in Aceh Besar. The research method is observational analytic with a cross sectional design. The research was conducted in September 2023 on 68 respondents, to assess lung function using spirometry and PM levels using the Air Quality Monitor. The results of data analysis showed that lung function disorders showed restrictive disorders (47.1%), the majority of workers worked for >3 years (75%) with working hours ≥8 hours/day (100%) and the dominant respiratory complaint was coughing (23, 5%) and shortness of breath (13.2%), as well as the dominant type of work in brick molding (67.6%) rather than burning (32.4%). The PM2.5 index in the brick manufacturing area is classified as very dangerous (100%) and the PM10 index is very unsafe (55.6%) and very dangerous (44.4%). Bivariate analysis was carried out using the Spearman correlation test and multivariate analysis using the logistic regression test. In conclusion, there is a relationship between PM and lung function disorders, there is a relationship between length of exposure and lung function disorders but there is no relationship between length of exposure and respiratory complaints, there is no causal relationship between PM and work experience with respiratory complaints and there is no causal relationship between PM and work period
