Abstract
ABSTRACT Diseases in animals are generally divided into infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases. One of the infectious agents in infectious diseases is parasites. Parasites that commonly attack animals are gastrointestinal parasites. This study aims to determine the gastrointestinal parasites that infect laying hens (Gallus domesticus) at the community farm in Tanah Merah village Binjai North Sumatra. The samples in this study used fresh fecal samples from 83 individuals from a population of 500 laying hens. Stool samples were collected in the morning and 10% formalin was added in a ratio of 1:1 and put into an icebox, then the samples were taken to the Parasitology Laboratory of Syiah Kuala University for examination. Sample examination was carried out using centrifugation, sedimentation, Formol-ether and Ziehl Neelsen methods. The data obtained was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that 4 laying hens were positively infected with gastrointestinal parasites. The parasites that infect come from the nematode, trematode and protozoa groups. The prevalence of nematode groups is Ascaridia galli (2.4%); the trematode group is Echinostoma sp. (1.2%); and protozoa, namely Eimeria sp. (1.2%). It can be concluded that laying hens in the Tanah Merah village community farms are infected with parasites from the nematode, trematode and protozoa groups.
