Kakao (kakao theobroma l.) merupakan jenis benih yang cenderung bersifat rekalsitran, yang artinya akan mengalami penuaan dan penurunan mutu selama masa penyimpanan. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsentrasi pelapis jel lidah buaya dan lama penyimpanan terbaik terhadap viabilitas dan vigor benih kakao serta interaksi yang terjadi diantara keduanya. penelitian ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium ilmu dan teknologi benih, jurusan agroteknologi, fakultas pertanian, universitas syiah kuala, banda aceh. penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (ral) dengan pola faktorial. faktor yang diteliti adalah konsentrasi pelapisan lidah buaya dengan 4 taraf yaitu kontrol, 15%, 25%, 35% dan 3 taraf lama penyimpanan yaitu 0, 14 hari dan 28 hari. viabilitas dan vigor benih kakao cenderung lebih baik pada konsentrasi pelapisan 15% dan lama penyimpanan 0 hari (kontrol).

Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) is a type of seed that tends to be recalcitrant, which means it will experience aging and decline in quality during the storage period. This research aims to determine the concentration of aloe vera jel coating and the best storage time on the viability and vigor of cocoa seeds as well as the interactions that occur between the two. This research was carried out at the Seed Science and Technology Laboratory, Department of Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a factorial pattern. The factors studied were the concentration of aloe vera coating with 4 levels of control, namely 15%, 25%, 35% and 3 levels of storage time, namely 0, 14 days and 28 days. The viability and vigor of cocoa seeds tended to be better at a coating concentration of 15% and a storage period of 0 days (control).
