Penelitian kuantitatif korelasional ini bertujuan untuk menemukan dan mendeskripsikan korelasi antara aktivitas menonton film berbahasa inggris siswa (variabel x) dan pemahaman mendengarkan mereka (variabel y). penelitian ini dilakukan di jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris universitas syiah kuala. populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester iii tahun pelajaran 2021/2022, dan sampelnya sebanyak 43 mahasiswa. instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah angket dan tes mendengarkan. skor dari kedua instrumen dihitung dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode korelasi spearman dalam program statistical program for social science (spss) untuk melihat apakah ada hubungan antara kedua variabel. hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat korelasi yang sangat tinggi, dengan nilai indeks koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,898. selanjutnya pengujian hipotesis menunjukkan nilai indeks jauh lebih tinggi dibandingkan koefisien korelasi indeks pearson, yang berarti hipotesis alternatif (ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (h0) ditolak. kesimpulannya, terdapat korelasi antara kedua variabel.

Abstract
This correlational quantitative research is aimed to find and describe the correlation between students’ English movie-watching activity (variable x) and their listening comprehension (variable y). This study was conducted at the Department of English Education of Syiah Kuala University. The population in this study was all of the third-semester students in the study year 2021/2022, and the sample was 43 students. The instruments that were used to gather the data were questionnaire and listening test. The scores from both instruments were calculated and analyzed by using Spearman’s correlation method in Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS) program to see if there was any relationship between the two variables. The result showed that there was a very high correlation, with the index value of correlation coefficient of 0.898. Furthermore, the hypotheses testing showed that index value was much higher than the correlation coefficient of the Pearson’s index, which means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. In conclusion, there is a correlation between the two variables.
