Sponge iron merupakan besi yang diperoleh dengan mereduksi bijih besi secara langsung pada temperatur dibawah titik lelehnya. proses pembuatan sponge iron terbagi menjadi dua proses utama yaitu menggunakan reduktor gas (gas alam) dan reduktor padat (batu bara). prarancangan pabrik sponge iron ini menggunakan bahan baku utama yaitu bijih besi hematite (fe2o3) serta bahan baku pendukung seperti limestone dan batu bara. proses produksi sponge iron dengan berbasis padatan di kelompokan menjadi 4 area pabrik yaitu; unit perlakuan awal, unit proses, unit pemurnian dan unit pemanfaatan limbah. bijih besi diperoleh dari daerah aceh barat daya. kapasitas produksi pabrik ini adalah 200.000 ton/tahun dengan hari kerja 330 hari/tahun. bentuk perusahaan yang direncanakan adalah perseroan terbatas (pt) dengan menggunakan metode struktur garis dan staf. kebutuhan tenaga kerja untuk menjalankan perusahaan ini berjumlah 140 orang. lokasi pabrik direncanakan didirikan di desa alue jerjak, kecamatan babahrot, kabupaten aceh barat daya, provinsi aceh dengan luas tanah 21.741 m2. sumber air pabrik ini berasal dari sungai babahrot, aceh barat daya dengan total kebutuhan air sebesar 404.603,81 kg/jam, serta untuk memenuhi kebutuhan listrik sebesar 2,988 mw diperoleh dari pembangkit listrik tenaga uap. hasil analisa ekonomi yang diperoleh adalah sebagai berikut: 1. fixed capital investment = rp 194.959.083.570 2. working capital investment = rp 48.739.770.892 3. total capital investment = rp 243.698.854.462 4. total production cost = rp 1.610.196.062.468 5. sales cost = rp 1.721.841.045.952 6. laba bersih = rp 83.733.737.613 7. pay out time = 3,9906 tahun 8. break event point = 64,93% 9. internal rate of return = 20,83%

Sponge Iron obtained by reducing iron ore directly at temperatures below its melting point. The process of making Sponge Iron divided into two main processes, namely using a gas reducing agent (natural gas) and a solid reducing agent (coal). The Sponge Iron Plant Design uses the main raw material, namely Hematite iron ore (Fe2O3) and supporting raw materials such as limestone and coal. The production process of Solid-based Sponge ironis grouped into 4 factory areas, namely: Pre-treatment unit, process unit, purification unit and waste unit. Iron ore is obtained from the Southwest Aceh area. The capacity of this production plant is 200,000 tons / year with 330 working days / year. The planned company form is a Limited Liability Company (PT) using the line and staff structure method. The need for manpower to run this company is 140 people. The factory site was established in Alue Jerjak Village, Babahrot District, Aceh Barat Daya District, Aceh Province with a land area of 21.741 m2. The water source for this factory comes from the Babahrot River, Aceh Barat Daya with a total air demand of 404.603,81 kg / hour, and to meet the electricity needs of 2,988 MW, it is obtained from the Steam Power Plant.
