Ministry of education and culture syiah kuala university faculty of nursing sciences thesis july 2013 xv pages + vi chapters + 67 pages + 10 tables + 1 schema + 12 appendices liza fajriani 1107101190036 description of factors associated with dementia on elderly people at the provincial technical implementation unit (tiu) rumoh seujahtra geunaseh sayang banda aceh in 2013 abstract one indicator of successful development of a nation reflects from the life expectancy of the population. when the life expectancy is higher, the elderly population will also be growing. in 2020 it is predicted that there will be more aged people than toddlers. based on the preliminary data released by the provincial technical implementation unit (tiu) on april 2, 2013, it shows that there are 70 elderly people who allegedly have symptoms associated with dementia. this study aimed to describe the factors associated with dementia in the elderly at the provincial technical implementation unit (tiu) rumoh geunaseh seujahtra sayang banda aceh in 2013. it was a descriptive research with a population of 70 elderly people at aged care and the number of samples were 30 elderly selected by using purposive sampling technique. this study was conducted on july 13-14, 2013. data were collected by using questionnaire with guided interview techniques. the results showed that the factor of family members’ background who were not experiencing dementia was 76.60%, the factor of education was in the basic category of 100%, the factor of smoking habit revealed that most of the elderly did not smoke of 86.60%, the factor of hypertension indicated that majority of the elderly did not have the high blood pressure of 80%, the factor of depression in the elderly was regarded as low category of 66.60%, the factor of stress of the elderly was mostly in light category of 30%, the factor of stroke revealed that majority of the elderly did not have it which was 90%, and the elderly who did not experience head trauma was 83.33%. it is hoped that the provincial technical implementation unit (tiu) rumoh geunaseh seujahtra sayang banda aceh can facilitate the elderly people to live an optimal quality of life, improve the counseling on stress management such as gymnastics, teaching fellow seniors so that the causes of factors of dementia can be minimised. keywords: family history background, education, smoking, hypertension, depression, stress, stroke, head trauma, dementia, and the elderly references: 29 books, 4 articles from internet, 1 journal (2000-2013)
