Latar belakang : hipertrofi tonsil terjadi jika tonsil yang sehat dirangsang secara terus-menerus sehingga aktivitas dan proliferasi di dalam jaringan tonsil melebihi kemampuan proteksinya. semakin besar ukuran tonsil palatina terhadap volume orofaring maka akan semakin berat efek obstruksi yang menjadi indikasi dilakukan tonsilektomi. paparan terhadap alergen secara terus-menerus menimbulkan inflamasi persisten pada tonsil palatina yang berfungsi sebagai pertahanan awal pada traktus aerodigestif, sehingga banyak pasien alergi yang mengalami batuk pilek dijumpai tonsil palatina yang ikut membesar. interleukin-4 merupakan mediator utama dalam proses alergi. tujuan : mengetahui hubungan ekspresi interleukin-4 terhadap derajat hipertrofi tonsil palatina pada pasien alergi yang menjalani tonsilektomi metode : penelitian observasional analitik untuk mengetahui hubungan antara ekspresi interleukin-4 jaringan tonsil palatina terhadap derajat hipertrofi tonsil palatina pada pasien alergi yang menjalani tonsilektomi di rsudza banda aceh periode oktober – desember 2022. hasil : terdapat 13 pasien hipertrofi tonsil palatina yang menjalani tonsilektomi dan memiliki alergi berdasarkan kuesioner sfar. derajat hipertrofi tonsil terbanyak pada sampel penelitian adalah t3 diikuti t2 dan t4. didapatkan hubungan yang signifikan antara ekspresi il-4 terhadap derajat hipertrofi tonsil palatina pada pasien alergi (p

Abstract
Background : Tonsil hypertrophy occurs when the protecting capacity of healthy tonsil is outstripped by excessive activity and proliferation in the tonsil tissue. The bigger the palatine tonsils toward the volume of the oropharynx, the more severe the obstructive effect will be which is an indication for tonsillectomy. Since the tonsils serve as the first line of defense in the aerodigestive tract and are continually inflamed by allergen exposure, many allergic individuals who experience cough and cold are also found to have enlarged tonsils. Interleukin-4 is the main mediator in the allergic process. Objective : To determine the relationship between interleukin-4 expression and palatine tonsil hypertrophy in allergic individuals having tonsillectomy. Methods : Analytical observational study to determine the relation between the interleukin-4 expression in tonsillar tissue and the degree of palatine tonsils in allergic patients underwent tonsillectomy at RSUDZA Banda Aceh in period October to Desember 2022. Result : According to the SFAR questionnaire, 13 patients with tonsillar hypertrophy who underwent tonsillectomy also developed allergies. T3 was the study sample's most level of tonsillar hypertrophy, followed by T2 and T4. IL-4 expression and palatine tonsillar hypertrophy severity were shown to be significantly correlated in allergic patients (p 0.001). The higher the expression of IL-4, the higher the degree of palatine tonsillar hypertrophy. There were differences in the expression of IL-4 for each degree of palatine tonsillar hypertrophy, the strongest values were found at T4, followed by T3, and T2. Conclusion : There was a significant relationship between IL-4 expression and the degree of tonsillar hypertrophy in allergic patients.
